Getting eyelash extensions is self care like no other … That confident feeling you get after a full set is the fuel for this whole industry. There’s just something so exciting about it all.
In order to keep the lashes looking flawless and in the best condition they can be, lash prep is vital.
Here are some tips and tricks you can try before your lash appointment:
1. Come with a clean face
I know, I know … its hard not to feel really bare faced without any eye makeup or mascara on but trust me you should remove all eye makeup before your appointment to save time or any possible irritation. Most lash artists will have a cleanser to hand anyway, but to guarantee there is no residue remaining you want to use a gentle oil free cleanser to ensure proper adhesion. I would also recommend coming with a clean face too as you cannot get your lashes wet for 24 hours after getting extensions, so to avoid hassle this may be best.
2. Lash Shampoo
To best remove oil stains and residue from your lashes (both natural & extensions) you should use lash shampoo. It will banish all impurities, bacteria, and irritants. Not to mention it still promotes the growth of natural lashes. Think of it like a face wash or normal shampoo, where would we be without them ? We recommend our Mink Pro Lash Shampoo
3. Discontinued use of waterproof mascara
We all love a waterproof mascara… it lasts longer and the curl tends to hold better. However, even after properly cleansing the lashes some residue of waterproof mascara can remain on the lashes. That’s why we recommend a short break from wearing this product for 3 days before your appointment. This will mean that the adhesive can properly bond, preventing premature lash loss.
4. Avoid Oil Based products around the eyes
Oil based products can be great for the skin, but are not so great for lashes when applying lash extensions. The oily residue once again weakens the binding of the glue and the lash extensions, causing premature lash loss.
5. Washing your hair
Now I know this isn’t specifically an eyelash tip but girl to girl I know how important our hair wash cycle is … You may want to wash your hair before the appointment as you can’t get your lashes wet for 24 hours after the initial application.
That’s just a few tips from us, we hope you enjoy your lashes ! Feel free to send us any photos …
